Take your time filling in the survey

img_3295.jpgThe Phase 2 consultation includes a survey that you can fill in. Some people will have had a paper copy in the post, and for the rest of us the online version is available via the developer’s site.

Please don’t feel that you have to fill this in and send it off immediately. There’s a lot of information to look at and think about over the next few weeks – the deadline for getting the survey in is 13 July.

If you can, you should read as much as possible of the information that has been posted online and is also available in local libraries. Also, there’s the four public meetings in the middle of June at which the developers will be present and can answer questions.

The key thing to remember is that this is a profit-making venture, that is taking advantage of a lack of government policy, to industrialise the countryside. This is all being done under the cover of some rather dubious claims. Yes it is solar, but at an industrial scale and in an arrangement that is unbelievably dense and brutal. It’s effectively going to be one of the biggest buildings in the world. And it covers the coastal countryside when brownfield sites like Kingsnorth are readily available. A claimed benefit is that it will contribute £££ to the local community, but this is just the legally required business rates! How many companies do you know that highlight the tax they pay as a benefit? They’re really clutching at straws trying to find something positive to say about it…
