In a letter to local residents, Helen Whately says the scale of the site is equivalent to 400 football pitches. However, KentOnline in their article from 14 November Proposal to build Britain’s biggest solar farm near Whitstable says that the development is the size of 900 football pitches.
So what’s the truth?
The developer’s proposal [pdf] talks about the site being 890 hectares in size. This site on metric measures says that a football pitch, as defined by FIFA is between 0.62 and 0.82 hectares.
By these measures the development is between 551.8 and 729.8 pitches in size. Let’s average it out at 640 football pitches.
